Dexter has been a fascinating and compelling show from day one. The mind of a serial killer is a strange and terrifying place, but in the hands of Michael C. Hall, it's also oddly compelling and sympathetic. One gets the impression that Dexter isn't quite as evil as he thinks he is. Case in point: Dexter wants a friend. Like a child yearning for someone to play with, to understand him, to accept him for who he is, he ends up with the equally terrifying, and possibly more psychotic local D.A., Miguel Prado, played with commendable charm and unhinged menace by the always wonderful Jimmy Smits. Prado and Dexter are so good together, we want them to be friends as badly as Dexter does. Even their significant others get along!
